Don't let a tachograph driver card expire
A Turkish tachograph driver card is valid for five years, and a driver may hold only one valid card (Tachograph Regulation, Article 9(5)(a)-(b)). To renew, the driver applies to the Card Issuing Authority at least fifteen days before expiry; if requested in time, the new card is issued before the old one expires.
Under Türkiye's Regulation on Tachographs Used in Vehicles Engaged in International Road Transport, a driver card is valid for five years. A driver may hold only one valid card, may use only their own card and may not use a damaged or expired card (Article 9(5)(a) and 9(5)(b)).
A driver who wants to renew the card applies to the Card Issuing Authority at least fifteen days before the card's validity ends (Article 10(1)). If the request is made within that time limit, the Card Issuing Authority issues the new card before the old one expires (Article 9(5)(d)).

A replacement card issued on renewal keeps the same driver card number; only the index number increases by one (Article 9(5)(c)).
Who is responsible?
The driver holds the card and applies for its renewal (Article 10(1)). When a driver drives a vehicle fitted with a digital tachograph, the employer and the driver together ensure that both the tachograph and the driver card work properly and are used correctly (Article 9(1)).
If the deadline passes
A driver may not use an expired card (Article 9(5)(b)). Under the Road Transport Regulation, if the driver of a vehicle registered on an authorisation certificate and required to use a tachograph driver card is found driving with an invalid card or without a card, the holder of the authorisation certificate on which the vehicle is registered receives 75 warning points for each violation (Road Transport Regulation, Article 35(2)).
Why the 30-day reminder matters
The renewal application must be made at least 15 days before expiry (Article 10(1)). ExpirySuite's 14-day reminder arrives after that limit, so we recommend starting the application when the 30-day reminder arrives.
