When kasko lapses the vehicle is uninsured: don't miss the end date
Kasko, Türkiye's own-damage motor insurance, is voluntary and its General Conditions set no fixed term: cover starts and ends on the dates written in the policy, at 12:00 noon unless agreed otherwise (A.8). A lapsed policy brings no fine, but the vehicle's own damage is uncovered from that moment.
Kasko is Türkiye's own-damage motor insurance. It is governed by the General Conditions of Land Vehicles Kasko Insurance published by the Insurance and Private Pension Regulation and Supervision Agency (SEDDK). Under them the insurer covers direct material damage to the motor or non-motor land vehicles, trailers, caravans, construction machinery, wheeled tractors and agricultural machinery named in the policy and permitted on the road, caused by collision, impact of an external object, overturning or falling, malicious acts of third parties, fire, and theft or attempted theft (A.1). Cover is valid within the borders of Türkiye (A.2).
Kasko is separate from compulsory motor liability (trafik) insurance: the compulsory insurance covers damage caused to third parties and has its own general conditions and the Road Traffic Law behind it, while kasko covers damage to the insured's own vehicle. The Kasko General Conditions contain no sanction for not taking out a policy; when a policy ends, the consequence is that the vehicle's own damage is no longer covered. The expiry of compulsory liability insurance is covered in a separate guide.
The General Conditions do not fix a policy term: cover starts and ends on the days written in the policy as the start and end dates, at 12:00 noon Türkiye time unless otherwise agreed (A.8). The date to track is therefore the end date printed on your policy. Cover is sold under one of the product names Dar Kasko, Kasko, Genişletilmiş Kasko or Tam Kasko, which must appear in the policy heading in letters of at least 16 points (A.1).

This page was prepared from the General Conditions text published on seddk.gov.tr, read on 14 October 2026. The text sets no one-year or other fixed term; the term is agreed in the contract. A second policy covering the same interest against the same risks for the same period cannot be issued (C.4).
Who is responsible?
The policyholder, that is the business that takes out the policy. The whole premium, or the first instalment if paid in instalments, is due when the contract is made and at the latest on delivery of the policy; unless otherwise agreed the insurer's liability does not start until it is paid, and this is stated on the front of the policy (C.1). If the insured or policyholder dies, the insurance continues and the new beneficiary notifies the insurer within fifteen days of learning of it (C.5).
If the deadline passes
The General Conditions provide no fine or administrative sanction for a vehicle whose kasko has ended. The consequence is a coverage gap: from 12:00 noon on the end date written in the policy (A.8), the vehicle's own damage from collision, fire, theft and the other insured events is not paid by the insurer. Under a new policy, liability does not start until the premium or first instalment is paid (C.1), so complete the renewal before the end date.
Kasko and compulsory liability insurance are not the same policy
Compulsory motor liability insurance covers the damage a vehicle causes to third parties and is governed by its own general conditions and tariff regulation; the Road Traffic Law provides sanctions for a vehicle without a valid policy. Kasko is a voluntary property insurance covering only the insured's own vehicle (Kasko General Conditions, A.1). The two policies can have different end dates; record each as a separate document.
Tracking it with ExpirySuite
- Add each vehicle as a separate asset, upload the kasko policy and enter the end date written in the policy as the expiry date; since the General Conditions set no fixed term, take the date from the policy itself.
- Email reminders arrive 60, 30, 14, 7 and 1 day before expiry and on the expiry day; complete the renewal and pay the premium before the policy ends (C.1).
- Add compulsory motor liability insurance as a separate document; the two policies may end on different dates.
- When a vehicle is sold, close the record or transfer it to the new owner; the contract ends automatically when the insured interest changes hands (C.5).
- Assign the person who follows up renewals as the document owner; overdue records are also reported to managers on days 3, 7 and 14.
- You can request the renewed policy from your insurance agent through a secure link valid for 14 days, without them needing an account.
