Don't let your tachograph inspection lapse
In Türkiye a tachograph must be periodically inspected and sealed every two years, counted from the date on the calibration certificate and installation plaque issued after the last inspection (Tachograph Inspection and Sealing Regulation, Article 8(3) and 8(5)). The company is responsible for doing it on time.
Under Türkiye's Regulation on Inspection and Sealing of Tachographs, the initial inspection seal is valid for two years, counted from the date on the tachograph calibration certificate issued after the initial inspection (Article 7(3)). Periodic inspection and sealing is carried out every two years, apart from the exceptional cases listed (Article 8(3)).
The periodic inspection is done by applying to a service before the initial or previous periodic inspection period ends; the period runs from the date on the calibration certificate and installation plaque issued after the last inspection (Article 8(1) and 8(5)). Tachographs that have not been inspected and sealed may not be used in vehicles (Article 5(1)).
At a glance
| Periodic inspection | Every two years (Article 8(3)) |
|---|---|
| Period starts | Date on the calibration certificate and installation plaque issued after the last inspection (Article 8(5)) |
| Application | Before the period ends, to a service certified by the Ministry (Articles 4(1)(j) and 8(1)) |
| Responsible | The company (Articles 5(2) and 8(2)) |
| Early inspection | If the w coefficient changes after tyre size or gearbox changes, the effective tyre circumference changes by ±4%, the registration number changes, or a digital tachograph's UTC time drifts by more than 20 minutes (Article 8(4)) |
| Uninspected device | May not be used in vehicles (Article 5(1)) |
At the inspection the service calibrates the tachograph, issues the calibration certificate and installation plaque, and fixes the new plaque in the vehicle (Article 9(2)).
Who is responsible?
The company, meaning the person or organisation carrying out road transport for hire, reward or on own account (Article 4(1)(k)). The company is responsible for having the inspection and sealing done on time throughout the tachograph's use (Articles 5(2) and 8(2)).
If the deadline passes
Tachographs that have not been inspected and sealed may not be used in vehicles (Article 5(1)). If the period has lapsed, the service informs the user and then carries out the inspection and sealing (Article 10(2)).
An inspection may be needed before two years
Even before the period ends, a periodic inspection and sealing is carried out if the vehicle's characteristic coefficient (w) changes, the effective circumference of the tyres (l) changes by ±4% compared with the installation plaque, the registration number changes, or a digital tachograph's UTC time drifts by more than twenty minutes (Article 8(4)). A new two-year period then runs from the date on the new calibration certificate (Article 8(5)).
