Don't miss the periodic inspection of your electrical and earthing installation
In Türkiye workplace electrical and earthing installations must be inspected at least once a year by authorised electrical engineers, teachers or technicians unless a standard says otherwise (Work Equipment Regulation, Annex III, Table 3). The installation project is required; the employer arranges it.
Under Türkiye's Regulation on Health and Safety Requirements in the Use of Work Equipment, the equipment and installations listed in the Annex III tables are subject to periodic inspection, carried out by persons authorised to perform periodic inspections (Article 7(1)). Electrical and earthing installations are listed in Annex III, Table 3, with a maximum interval of one year where the standards set no interval.
The inspection follows the Regulation on Earthing in Electrical Installations, the Regulation on High-Current Electrical Installations, the Regulation on Indoor Electrical Installations and the TS EN 60079 and TS HD 60364 standard series. The installation project is required at the inspection and the installation is assessed for conformity with it (Annex III, 2.3.7 and Table 3).
At a glance
| Maximum interval | 1 year where the standards set no interval (Annex III, 2.3.1 and Table 3) |
|---|---|
| Who inspects | Authorised electrical engineers, electrical-electronic engineers, technical teachers who graduated in electrical education, and electrical technicians or senior technicians; for installations of 1 kV or less, authorised electronic engineers too (Annex III, 2.3.2) |
| Project | The installation project is required; the employer must have one drawn up for installations without a project (Annex III, 2.3.7) |
| Contract | A contract following the İSG-KATİP template is drawn up and mutually approved at least 1 day before the inspection (Article 7(6)) |
| Report | Shows the inspector's EKİPNET registration number and the start date of the next periodic inspection (Article 7(5); Annex III, 1.7.1) |
| Legal basis | Regulation on Health and Safety Requirements in the Use of Work Equipment, Article 7 and Annex III |
The same Table 3 also lists lightning protection, batteries, transformers, generators and cathodic protection installations with a maximum interval of 1 year; track them as separate records.
Who is responsible?
The employer. It ensures the inspection is done by authorised persons, records the results with a wet signature or a secure electronic signature, and keeps them to show the authorities on request (Article 7(2)(b) and 7(2)(c)). It makes or arranges the preparations specified by the inspector (Article 7(4)). Periodic inspection reports are kept for as long as the equipment is in use (Annex III, 1.6).
If the deadline passes
If the report finds non-conformities and states that the installation should not be used until they are fixed, it is not used until then, and the employer marks it with a clearly visible warning (Annex III, 1.9). Minor defects must be fixed by the start date of the next periodic inspection, otherwise they count as major defects (Annex III, 1.9.1). An employer that fails to meet obligations in regulations based on Article 30 of Law No. 6331 is subject to a monthly administrative fine for each provision not complied with (Law, Article 26(1)(n)).
When is an inspection needed besides the yearly one?
A periodic inspection is also carried out after installation and before first use where safety depends on installation conditions, after major maintenance or repair, and whenever non-mobile equipment is relocated (Article 7(2)(a)). Inspections are also required after events that may impair safety, such as changes in working methods, accidents, natural events or long periods out of use (Article 7(2)(b)).
Tracking it with ExpirySuite
