Don't miss the yearly periodic inspection of your generators
In Türkiye workplace generators must be inspected at least once a year to the TS ISO 8528 series by authorised electrical engineers, technical teachers or technicians unless a standard says otherwise (Work Equipment Regulation, Annex III, Table 3). The employer arranges the inspection and keeps the report.
Under Türkiye's Regulation on Health and Safety Requirements in the Use of Work Equipment, the equipment listed in the Annex III tables is subject to periodic inspection, carried out by persons authorised to perform periodic inspections (Article 7(1)). Unless the relevant standards say otherwise, installations are inspected once a year (Annex III, 2.3.1).
Generators are a separate row in Annex III, Table 3: the maximum interval, without prejudice to intervals set by the relevant standard, is 1 year where the standards set no interval, and the inspection follows the criteria of the TS ISO 8528 series of standards.
At a glance
| Maximum interval | 1 year where the standards set no interval (Annex III, 2.3.1 and Table 3) |
|---|---|
| Inspection criteria | TS ISO 8528 series of standards (Annex III, Table 3) |
| Who inspects | Authorised electrical engineers, electrical and electronics engineers, technical teachers who graduated in electrical education, electrical technicians or senior technicians; for installations of 1 kV or less, authorised electronics engineers too (Annex III, 2.3.2) |
| Contract | A contract following the İSG-KATİP template is drawn up and mutually approved at least 1 day before the inspection (Article 7(6)) |
| Report | Shows the inspector's EKİPNET registration number and the next inspection start date (Article 7(5); Annex III, 1.7.1) |
The same table lists electrical installations, earthing, lightning protection, batteries, transformers and cathodic protection, inspected by the same authorised persons as generators (Annex III, 2.3.2 and Table 3); each can be tracked as a separate record.
Who is responsible?
The employer. It ensures periodic inspections are done by authorised persons, records the results with a wet signature or a secure electronic signature, and keeps them to show the authorities on request (Article 7(2)(b) and 7(2)(c)). It carries out, or has carried out, the preparations specified by the authorised person before the inspection (Article 7(4)). Periodic inspection reports are kept for as long as the equipment is in use (Annex III, 1.6).
If the deadline passes
If the report finds non-conformities and states that the equipment should not be used until they are fixed, it is not used until then, and the employer marks it with a clearly visible warning (Annex III, 1.9). Minor defects must be fixed by the start date of the next periodic inspection, otherwise they count as major defects (Annex III, 1.9.1). An employer that fails to meet obligations in regulations based on Article 30 of Law No. 6331 is subject to a monthly administrative fine for each provision not complied with (Law, Article 26(1)(n)).
When is an inspection needed besides the yearly one?
Equipment whose safety depends on installation conditions is also inspected after installation and before first use, after major maintenance and repair, and, if not mobile, after every change of location (Article 7(2)(a)). The necessary inspections are also carried out after events that may impair safety, such as changes in working methods, accidents, natural events or long periods out of use (Article 7(2)(b)). The frequency of tests and examinations can be increased based on a risk assessment (Annex III, 1.10).
Tracking it with ExpirySuite
- Add each boiler, hot-water tank, generator or installation as a separate asset, upload the periodic inspection report as a file and enter the next inspection start date shown in the report as the expiry date.
- Email reminders arrive 60, 30, 14, 7 and 1 days before expiry and on the expiry day, so you can plan the İSG-KATİP contract and the inspection day around them.
- Assign the person who organises the inspection as the document owner; overdue records are also reported to managers on days 3, 7 and 14.
- You can request the report from the inspector or inspection company through a secure link valid for 14 days, without them needing an account.
