Track welder certificates and their surveillance

The MYK Steel Welder certificate (Level 3, 11UY0010-3) is valid for 2 or 3 years depending on the method chosen, per TS EN ISO 9606-1 clause 9.1, with surveillance every 6 months. A 3-year certificate is renewed by a new exam; a 2-year one is extended by 2 years if two welds from the last 6 months pass testing.

Under MYK national qualification 11UY0010-3 Steel Welder (Level 3), certified welders receive an MYK Vocational Qualification Certificate with an annex prepared in line with TS EN ISO 9606-1. As set out in TS EN ISO 9606-1 clause 9.1, the certificate is valid for 2 or 3 years, depending on the method chosen.

During its validity, the welder's qualification is subject to surveillance every 6 months, using the method in TS EN ISO 9606-1 clause 9.2. At the end of the period, a welder with a 3-year certificate is re-certified by taking the exam again; for a 2-year certificate, two welds made in the last 6 months are tested by radiography, ultrasonic or destructive testing, and if they meet the acceptance criteria the certificate is extended by 2 years.

Who is responsible?

The certificate holder applies for renewal (MYK Regulation, Article 27(2)). Businesses that employ welders may also want to track certificate and surveillance dates.

If the deadline passes

Certificates are suspended when surveillance cannot be carried out for reasons attributable to the holder (qualification, section 14). Renewal requires an application before the certificate expires (MYK Regulation, Article 27(2)).

A second record for the 3-year re-test

A 3-year certificate is renewed by taking the exam again (section 15(a)). You cannot change ExpirySuite's reminder timings, so if you want to plan the exam earlier, add a second record called "renewal exam" with a date of your choice.
