Don't miss the yearly health check of your biocide applicators
In Türkiye anyone who prepares or applies biocidal products needs a health report before starting and, while doing the work, a health check with neurological exam and blood cholinesterase test every twelve months (Biocidal Products Use Regulation, Article 18(1) and 18(3)). The responsible manager arranges the checks.
Under Türkiye's Regulation on the Procedures and Principles for the Use of Biocidal Products, people who will actually prepare and apply products obtain a health report before starting work (Article 18(1)). For as long as they do this work, they undergo a general health check every twelve months, including a neurological examination and a blood cholinesterase measurement (Article 18(3)).
The report must establish whether the person has chronic respiratory diseases such as asthma or COPD, allergic, skin or neurological diseases, measure blood cholinesterase, and confirm through other checks that they are fit for the work (Article 18(2)). Only people with this health report and a certificate may work as applicators (Article 10(1)).

Who is responsible?
The responsible manager has the staff's required tests and examinations carried out periodically (Article 8(2)(h)). The business keeps a separate file for each worker, holding the health report obtained from the workplace physician before starting work and the reports of the periodic health checks (Article 19(1)).
If the deadline passes
A worker showing abnormal neurological signs or with a cholinesterase level outside normal limits may not prepare or apply products until treated and recovered (Article 18(3)). If the requirements of Articles 17, 18 and 19 are neglected or breached, the business is warned and given fifteen days; if the shortcomings remain after that, its activity is suspended until it complies (Article 25(4)). Action is taken against those who breach the regulation under Public Health Law No. 1593 and Turkish Penal Code No. 5237 (Article 29).
