Keep your site's earthing measurement from running out
Earthing resistance and continuity-of-masses checks in Argentine workplaces (Law 19.587) are recorded in the mandatory protocol of the Occupational Risks Superintendency (SRT) and are valid for twelve months (SRT Resolution 900/2015, Articles 1 and 2). If they fail the AEA regulation, an action plan is required.
The Superintendency of Occupational Risks (SRT) approved the Protocol for measuring the earthing resistance value and verifying the continuity of exposed conductive parts (masas) in the workplace, mandatory for everyone who must measure earthing and verify continuity under Law 19.587 on Occupational Health and Safety and its implementing rules (SRT Resolution 900/2015, Article 1). The earthing measurement values and the verification of the continuity of the earth circuit of the masses recorded in that protocol are valid for twelve months (Article 2).
When measurements give values that do not meet the Argentine Electrotechnical Association (AEA) Regulation for electrical installations in buildings, or any exposed part is found not to be bonded to earth, an action plan must be drawn up to bring the workplace into compliance (Article 3). The proper operation of the devices protecting against indirect contact by automatic disconnection of supply must also be checked periodically (Article 4).
The protocol identifies the site and its tax ID (CUIT), the instrument used with make, model, serial number and date of last calibration, the date and times of the measurements and the method; the instrument's calibration certificate and a plan or sketch of the measured points are attached. For each earth electrode it records the sector, ground condition, use, earthing system (TT, TN-S, TN-C, TN-C-S or IT), resistance value in ohms, whether it meets the AEA regulation, whether the circuit is continuous and permanent, the type of protection against indirect contact and whether it trips within the regulatory maximum times, and closes with conclusions and recommendations (Annex, points 1 to 41). The SRT publishes a practical guide for carrying out the measurement (Article 5).

| Format | Standardised SRT protocol, mandatory, with a 41-point instruction sheet (Art. 1 and Annex) |
| If non-compliant | Action plan to bring the workplace into compliance when values fail the AEA regulation or continuity is missing (Art. 3) |
| Additional check | Periodic verification of the automatic-disconnection devices protecting against indirect contact (Art. 4) |

A national rule issued under Law 19.587 and Law 24.557 on Occupational Risks. The resolution entered into force thirty days after its publication in the Official Gazette of 28 April 2015 (Art. 7). The SRT's Prevention Department may change deadlines, conditions and requirements (Art. 6).
Who is responsible?
Employers, workers and Occupational Risk Insurers (ART) must adopt the legally required measures to prevent occupational risks and comply with health and safety rules (Law 24.557, Art. 4, cited in the recitals of SRT Resolution 900/2015). The protocol is completed by whoever carries out the measurement, with the instrument and calibration details, and identifies the site by company name and CUIT (Annex, points 1 to 8).
If the deadline passes
After twelve months the measurement values are no longer valid (SRT Resolution 900/2015, Art. 2) and the site needs a new measurement under the protocol. The resolution sets no penalty of its own: breaches fall under the general occupational health and safety regime, which is not reproduced on this page. If the current measurement showed values outside the AEA regulation, the action plan under Article 3 must be documented.
Three protocols with the same validity
The earthing measurement sits alongside other SRT protocols with yearly validity, such as those for noise and lighting. Record each protocol separately, using the measurement date as the start of the twelve months (SRT Resolution 900/2015, Art. 2), and also note the instrument's calibration date shown on the protocol (Annex, point 8).
Tracking it with ExpirySuite
- Add each site or workplace and record the measurement date plus twelve months as its expiry; if you have several SRT protocols, create one record for each.
- Email reminders arrive 60, 30, 14, 7 and 1 day before expiry and on the expiry day, leaving time to book the professional and a calibrated instrument.
- The technician or your health and safety service can upload the signed protocol and the calibration certificate through a secure link that is valid for 14 days and needs no account.
- Assign a responsible person, such as the health and safety officer; if a measurement expires, managers get further reminders 3, 7 and 14 days later.
Frequently asked questions
- How long is an earthing measurement valid?
- The earthing measurement values and the verification of the continuity of the earth circuit of the masses are valid for twelve months (SRT Resolution 900/2015, Art. 2).
- Is the SRT protocol mandatory?
- Yes. The protocol approved as the Annex is mandatory for everyone who must measure the earthing value and verify the continuity of masses under Law 19.587 and its implementing rules (Art. 1).
- What if the values do not comply?
- When values fail the AEA Regulation for electrical installations in buildings, or an exposed part is not bonded to earth, an action plan must be drawn up to bring the workplace into compliance (Art. 3).
- What must accompany the protocol?
- A copy of the instrument's calibration certificate issued by the laboratory and a plan or sketch of the site with the numbered measurement points, showing at least sectors or sections (Annex, points 14 and 15).
