Renew your TGA freight brokerage licence on time
A TGA freight brokerage or electronic freight brokerage licence is issued in the establishment's name for 3 years (Articles 5 and 12 of the Freight Brokerage Regulations). Renewal is filed in the 180 days before expiry with a valid Saudization certificate; after 30 days past expiry the licence is void.
In Saudi Arabia, freight brokerage is regulated by the Transport General Authority (TGA) under the Implementing Regulations for Freight Brokerage Activities. They cover freight brokerage and electronic freight brokerage (through a technical system only), each with its own licence. No establishment may carry out these activities without a TGA licence, or continue after the licence has expired, been cancelled or been suspended (Article 2).
The licence is issued in the establishment's name for 3 years once all licence conditions are met (Articles 5 and 12). It is renewed at the service provider's request for the same period. The renewal request, with all its conditions met, is filed during the 180 days before the licence expires; a valid Saudization (localisation) certificate is required and fees and any fines must be paid (Articles 6 and 13).
A renewal request may still be filed within 30 days after the expiry date, but the activity may not be carried out during that period, and TGA may impose the fine for late renewal. The licence becomes void automatically 30 days after expiry if no renewal request has been filed with all conditions met (Articles 6, 8, 13 and 15).

Freight brokerage and electronic freight brokerage each need their own licence; a freight brokerage licence holder may also broker electronically within that licence (Articles 2 and 17).
Who is responsible?
The licensed establishment. Some licence conditions must stay valid for the whole licence term, including a valid commercial registration that includes the activity, a premises in the licensed city (for freight brokerage) and a link to TGA's electronic platform (Articles 4 and 11).
If the deadline passes
The regulations prohibit continuing the activity after the licence expires (Article 2). A renewal request may be filed within 30 days of expiry, but the activity may not be carried out during that period and TGA may impose the fine for late renewal. After 30 days without a complete renewal request, the licence becomes void automatically (Articles 6, 8, 13 and 15).
Branch licences follow the main licence
A freight brokerage provider may get a branch licence. Its validity is tied to the main licence, and the same timing applies: renewal during the 180 days before expiry, a late request within 30 days after expiry, and automatic cancellation 30 days after expiry, or when the main licence is cancelled (Article 9).
