Refresher training for biocide service staff in Spain
Biocide service companies in Spain must provide refresher training of at least 20 hours every five years to all workers who apply biocides (Article 6.1 of Royal Decree 830/2010). The company records each training activity and keeps the record for as long as the worker stays with it (Article 6.2).
Owners of companies providing biocide services to third parties, whether corporate or at fixed premises, must keep refresher training programmes for all workers involved in applying biocides, every five years and lasting at least 20 hours. Topics cover scientific and technical advances, occupational safety and other aspects of the activity that may affect public health (Article 6.1 of Royal Decree 830/2010).
The company keeps a documentary record of each training activity with the workers' names and tax ID numbers, the date, duration, content and its rationale, the trainers and their qualifications and, where applicable, the training centre. These records are kept available to the authorities for as long as the worker remains with the company (Article 6.2).
The royal decree applies to those applying biocides authorised for specialised professional users in product types 2, 3, 4, 8, 11, 14, 18 and 19, such as disinfectants, wood preservatives, rodenticides and insecticides (Article 1). The service's technical manager must make sure workers holding a professional certificate receive this training, and the company owner provides the resources (Article 5.3.f).
