Keep every fleet vehicle's inspection up to date

Internal-combustion vehicles registered in Mexico City are inspected every six months, in the two-month period set by sticker colour or last plate digit (Mandatory Vehicle Inspection Programme, point 5.1). Missing the period means a fine and driving restrictions until the vehicle passes (points 10.1 and 14).

The Mandatory Vehicle Inspection Programme for the second half of 2026, published by Mexico City's Environment Ministry (SEDEMA) in the Official Gazette of Mexico City on 1 July 2026, is mandatory for owners or lawful holders of internal-combustion vehicles registered in Mexico City. Exceptions include motorcycles, electric and hybrid vehicles, vehicles with classic-car plates and construction and mining machinery (point 2).

Vehicles must take and pass the emissions inspection every six months, unless they have a valid "00" hologram (point 5.1). The period depends on the colour of the registration sticker or the last digit of the plate: yellow (5 or 6), July and August; pink (7 or 8), August and September; red (3 or 4), September and October; green (1 or 2), October and November; blue (9 or 0), November and December (point 5.1.1, table 1). Vehicles with a "0", "1" or "2" hologram have two months to get inspected (point 18(I)).

Vehicles registered in Mexico City for the first time, or that change plates, must be inspected within 180 calendar days of the registration card being issued (point 5.1.2). The current programme runs from 1 July to 31 December 2026 (point 17).

This is a Mexico City programme. Vehicles registered in other states or with federal plates may be inspected in Mexico City on a voluntary basis (point 2).

Who is responsible?

The owner or lawful holder of the vehicle (point 2). They must bring the vehicle with an appointment, official ID, within its inspection period, in good mechanical condition and with no outstanding traffic fines, vehicle tax or penalties under the vehicle-inspection regulation (point 9.1).

If the deadline passes

If the vehicle does not pass inspection within its period, a late-inspection fine must be paid. Payment gives 30 calendar days to take and pass the inspection and does not lift Hoy No Circula driving restrictions (points 10.1, 10.1.1 and 18(IV)). Vehicles registered in Mexico City without an inspection certificate and hologram, including those with a late-inspection fine, are restricted as if they had a "2" hologram: one weekday according to the plate's last digit and every Saturday of the month (point 14(V)).

What each hologram means

A "0" hologram certifies inspection and exempts the vehicle from Hoy No Circula restrictions; a "1" restricts driving on one weekday and two Saturdays a month; a "2", on one weekday and every Saturday of the month (points 4.9 to 4.11).

Tracking it with ExpirySuite

  1. Add each vehicle and record the last day of its inspection period as the expiry date; for example, 31 August for a yellow sticker in the second half of 2026.
  2. Email reminders arrive 60, 30, 14, 7 and 1 day before expiry and on the expiry day.
  3. The driver or the person in charge of the vehicle can upload the inspection certificate through a secure link that is valid for 14 days and needs no account.
  4. Assign a responsible person, such as the fleet manager; if an inspection lapses, managers get further reminders 3, 7 and 14 days later.

Frequently asked questions

How often must a vehicle be inspected in Mexico City?
Every six months, unless it has a valid "00" hologram (point 5.1 of the Mandatory Vehicle Inspection Programme for the second half of 2026).
When is my vehicle due?
It depends on the sticker colour or the last plate digit. In the second half of 2026: yellow (5 or 6), July and August; pink (7 or 8), August and September; red (3 or 4), September and October; green (1 or 2), October and November; blue (9 or 0), November and December (point 5.1.1).
What if I miss my period?
You must pay a late-inspection fine and get inspected within 30 calendar days of paying; meanwhile the vehicle is restricted as if it had a "2" hologram (points 10.1.1 and 14(V)).
Can I get inspected before my period?
Yes, to obtain a hologram with more benefits, by paying for the inspection. The pass counts for the current half-year, so you do not need to be inspected again in your period (point 5.1.7).
