Keep every MEWP in Dubai inspected every six months
Dubai Municipality guideline GU67 requires every mobile elevated work platform used by an establishment in the Emirate to be inspected every six months by a third-party company accredited by EIAC, plus checks before and after each use (section 4-16). The establishment keeps the inspection records for inspectors.
Dubai Municipality's technical guideline GU67 covers the health and safety of mobile elevated work platforms (MEWPs), such as man lifts and scissor lifts. It applies to all establishments using MEWPs at their work in the Emirate of Dubai.
Under GU67, all MEWPs must be inspected every six months by a third-party company accredited by the Emirates International Accreditation Centre (EIAC). The whole machine must also be checked before and after use, including the platform or cage, power source, working parts, structure and vehicle mounting, in line with the manufacturer's manual. Any modification to a MEWP must be inspected and certified by an EIAC-accredited third party.
Records of any inspection must be properly kept and made available to Dubai Municipality inspectors and other regulators. If a defect is found, the MEWP must be isolated, tagged and reported, and must not be used.

Who is responsible?
The establishment using the MEWP. GU67 recalls that employers must take every precaution to protect their workers, and requires them to identify the hazards and assess the risks before MEWP work. Its inspection and record-keeping requirements apply to all establishments using MEWPs in Dubai.
Operator training runs on its own two-year cycle
All MEWP operators must be trained to an internationally recognised standard or its equivalent, in the correct category of MEWP they will use. GU67 says all training must be repeated every two years as a minimum. Records of any training, including induction and toolbox talks, must be kept for at least five years and be available to Dubai Municipality inspectors. A supplier's handover demonstration does not count as training.
